Case Study: Uplands Diner

Uplands Diner in Swansea was opened by Lance Pardoe over 30 years ago and he has been running the restaurant ever since.

The restaurant, which was known originally for its breakfasts before evolving into providing roast dinners, pasta, milkshakes and more, first joined Just Eat just under a decade ago, which Lance says had a “stratospheric” impact for his business.

”The first night we launched on the app, the computer went ballistic – we had to close after 30 minutes because we couldn’t handle all the orders”, Lance explains.

“Being on Just Eat has definitely helped to keep us popular. We’re one of the longest standing restaurants in the area – when we first started offering Sunday lunches we were one of only a handful of venues doing it, and business just absolutely exploded.

“Now there is a lot more competition, but making sure we’re available to our customers online as well as in person makes sure we keep front of mind for them. It’s also meant we’re better equipped to weather storms like the pandemic, because we could close the dining area and serve our customers through delivery. In fact, the pandemic saw the business grow so popular that at one point we were operating a second venue to cope with the demand. We’re lucky we have a really loyal customer base, and Just Eat helps us to maintain that” he says.
