Case Study: Bald Baker

Scott Parker had a successful career as a wedding photographer until 2020 when the pandemic came, effectively closing his business overnight. As the world went into lockdown, to escape boredom Scott developed a newfound passion for baking and soon posted a sign in the window of a local shop in Edinburgh selling homemade tray bakes. Not long after, his new venture, Bald Baker, was officially launched.

“From there it just blew up,” explains owner and founder, Scott Parker.

“The business started off with me working from my mum’s kitchen where there was hardly any room, and just a couple of years later business for Bald Baker is booming and we’re exploring opening a third site in the city,” he adds.

Originally Bald Baker specialised in tray bakes but soon expanded the menu by branching out into pies and bread products – and just five months later, his business won the bronze award for Best Sausage Roll in Scotland at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.

Bald Baker signed up to Just Eat less than a year ago, in June 2023, yet orders made via the platform now make up almost half of the business’ turnover. Scott adds: “I’m a die hard Just Eat user myself – I already knew the platform and user experience was smooth and easy to use.

“As we continue to enhance the menu and reach more customers through the app, we’re aiming to take Bald Baker national – we’re working to build a delivery empire, and even go into wholesale markets.”
